The governor of Iowa wants to kill the Medicaid expansion that came with the pandemic. Specifically, for poor new moms. It will roll from 12 months to 2 months. This SUPER PRO-LIFE governor has proven again and again that in order to prove a pro-life stance, one must be heartless and cruel to moms, children, especially the poor, and basically anyone not a zygote, embryo, or fetus. I can break it down in 10 easy steps (there may be more).
1. Do not let young people with a uterus know how to prevent pregnancy. 2.Blame such when they get pregnant. 3. If the pregnancy goes sideways or will otherwise ruin her life, tell her that her life no longer matters. In fact, “all lives matter.” Except hers. 4. Blame her for dropping out of school (to work). 5. Make sure entry level jobs are all part-time, with unpredictable hours, and pay less than a living wage. 6. Make health care outrageously expensive, and if you are on Public Assistance, don’t expect timely or adequate care (check US minority maternal mortality rates). 7. Uh oh, she missed work to have the baby and gets fired. There is no sick time if you work PT min. wage. This ensures Public Assistance is the only way. 8 Make professional childcare attainable by only the wealthiest. 9. Blame her for bad choice of moving in with unsavory people to split costs. 10. Throw her off Medicaid. Sorry. No health care for you. – -says the “people” hiding behind a facade of moral superiority.
